Cult poet, prolific spokenwordsman, musician, recording artist, performance artist, collage artist, loud dreamer. Brad Hamers has had 4 books of poetry published, his first written in 1999 while performing regularly at The Nuyorican Poets Cafe and other venues in the NYC spoken word scene. Brad has released 18 musical projects over the past 20+ years, both as a solo artist and as a member of: Phlegm, Two Ton Sloth, Dust On Snow, Child of No Nation, Cat Child and Through Flames.  Brad has been touring his many mediums of art throughout the US, Europe, Australia, Central America and South America for the past two decades. His music and poetry have garnered international underground acclaim and a dedicated following, especially in Europe, where he toured numerous times in the late 2000’s with long time collaborator and audio/visual glitch artist, Big Pauper.  Brad’s collage art has also shown and sold around the world. His many years of hand-cut-n-paste work is both deeply personal and socially critical.  The visual art is another extension of his written and sonic word, sometimes taking the place of a poem or song; his work aims to repurpose and reimagine, to set a reflective tone and leave you with big questions. Inspired by the spirit of philosophy, détournement, vandalism and all things DIY, the purpose is to provoke new ideas with the debris of the old. Use every part. It’s all vintage thinking to dream over.

Brad has also been focusing on Experimental Theatre (Agit-Prop/Radical Participatory Theatre) since 2014.  Brad has toured internationally with his performance art. He has been creating and performing with The Living Theatre (the oldest avant-garde theatre company in USA) since 2014.  He was a part of the company in the last year of the co-founder, Judith Malina’s life, when he performed in her last completed play, “No Place To Hide” on the streets of NYC. Brad also toured the US with The Living in 2016 on the Know Your Rites tour, performing a revival of The Living Theatre’s 1973 play, “Seven Meditations on Political Sado-Masochism”, while also performing direct-action street pieces at specific sites of coercion, oppression and exploitation around the USA. Brad also collaborated with The Living Theatre to collectively devise Electric Awakening (Despertar Eléctrico), which was workshopped and performed with local artists in São Paulo, Brazil in 2017 at SESC. Brad also helped produce the The Living’s Theatre’s Al Límite Tour in 2019, which brought Electric Awakening workshops/performances to Mexico City, Tijuana, Mexico and Los Angeles, CA. In 2016/2017, Brad wrote and produced music and live performances with Child of No Nation, a radical, experimental sound and performance project (with Leah V Bachar, jdaugh and Cypress Atlas). He is also a co-founding member of the Al Límite Collective. He is a believer in magic, a practitioner of art as medicine, art as reorientation, art as a paradigm shifting tactic.
